*anti-bullying awareness & diversity is needed at every school, in every community*
BULLYING:
A person is bullied when he or she is exposed, repeatedly and over time, to negative actions on the part of one or more other persons. He or she has difficulty defending himself or herself against these actions and persons. In order to be considered bullying, the behavior must include an imbalance of power. Types of bullying may include actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose.
PLAYFUL vs. HARMFUL:
Teasing is a fun thing we do with friends- people we care about. It is playful and reciprocal. Taunting is not reciprocal. It is an early warning sign of bullying. When a bully taunts his or her target, there is no playfulness in the attack. Harm results from taunting.
Conflict is a disagreement. It is a normal part of relationships. Teaching conflict resolution skills improves the social and emotional well-being of others and fosters a safe learning environment.
